Drink to Tomorrow

On Sunday, May 2, you are likely to see kids standing behind lemonade stands all over Houston. Make no mistake, these young entrepreneurs are the successful business men and women of tomorrow. This event is produced by Prepared 4 Life, a non-profit formed by Lisa and Michael Holthouse, with plans to empower youth to become contributing members of society through its experiential programs like Lemonade Day.

The best part of the program is that after covering their expenses and paying back their investors, children are encouraged to open a youth savings account so they may “save a little, spend a little and give a little,” donating a portion of their profits to a local charity of choice.

There are some amazing stories of children and groups that are coming together to build lemonade stands…from a group of students and parents from the Chinese community coming together to raise funds from their stands to send to the earthquake victims, to a group of blind students using Lemonade Day materials in Braille as this experience helps build their confidence, to the entire freshman class at Lamar High School who are using this project to learn important business lessons…to children from Boys and Girls Country who are participating in this effort with their mentors…to a group of African American youth who are raising money for a trip to Washington, D.C…and the list goes on and on.

By all means, buy a glass or two of lemonade!!
