Movies On the Lawn

Go back to a simpler time -- so simple, the "talkies" weren't in movie studio production. In the evenings, people sat on grass lawns under a blanket of stars. KUHF, Houston Public Radio, will take you there this summer with a silent film concert series featuring unique film presentations combining silent films from the 1920's with live original scores composed and performed by Texas musicians. All of this will take place at Discovery Green and it's free!! The three part series will begin on Friday, April 16th with Girl Shy (1924), in which boy meets rich girl about to be married and tries to turn things around in his favor. (This doesn't sound so old fashioned.) Two Star Symphony, Houston's most unusual string ensemble, will perform an original score to accompany the movie. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs, sit back, relax. What is old, is new again.

It's a Wrap

The Tassi is a super absorbent double elastic terry cloth hair wrap (your hair sits in the terry cloth between the two pieces of covered elastic). Here's the deal, the terry cloth is really soft and comfy, and the band is wide enough to keep all of your hair out of the way while you are washing your face, taking a shower or applying make-up. Your hair looks exactly the same after you take the Tassi off as it did before you put it on. At $15, we are sold!

Available at Facade in Uptown Park and Out of the Box on Woodway, or online at www.tassicompany.com

And the winner is...

The annual Ronald McDonald House Oscar Night America fundraiser was held at the JW Marriott last month. Over 300 guests were treated like stars, as red-carpet host Ryan Chase greeted each guest with a microphone and a camera crew! Hosted by the Young Friends group of the Ronald McDonald House organization, guests were able to partake in any number of “winning activities". Guests had the opportunity to pick the Oscar winners of any individual category, or all 24 in order to win any number of prizes varying from theater tickets to gift cards. The winning opportunities didn’t stop there! For every $1000 worth of casino chips handed in, raffle tickets could be redeemed and entered for door prizes. All in all, the turnout was nothing short of success as dollars were raised to benefit the three Ronald McDonald Houses located right here in Houston.
