Age of Elegance

The 57th annual THETA CHARITY ANTIQUES SHOW has a new date, November 19-22, 2009. Considered to be one of the top three antiques shows in the country, TCAS has donated over $5.5 million dollars to medical research, cultural arts, and educational endeavors in the Houston area. The Show, Chaired by Cooky Mays, will have over 50 premier antiques dealers from around the globe, selling the finest in antiques from the 17th through the 20th centuries.

Have you ever wondered what that pretty little candy dish your aunt gave you is worth? Or what about your grandmother’s pearls, or those coins that have been rattling around in your husband’s sock drawer? Now is the time to find out at the first TCAS APPRAISAL DAY.

There will be 10 highly qualified antiques appraisers (some are “Antiques Roadshow” veterans) just waiting to enlighten you Saturday, from 10 am -3 pm at the Show. Your first item will cost $15, which includes a ticket to the Show. Each additional item is $15. You’ll never know if you have a true treasure unless you ask!

You are also invited to special afternoon receptions in the Tea Room at the Show: Thursday, November 19th from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, will be the Rococo Rock Teaparty for a taste of the 50's. Friday, November 20th at 2:30 pm, Dr. Kay Jay from the University of Texas School of Human Ecology, will give you the inside info on the loan collection of Historical Textiles and Apparel. The Collection will include the dress worn by Miss Ima Hogg,li for her portrait which hangs in Bayou Bend.

Don't miss the New Collector Booth and Antiques and the Modern Table,
making their first appearance this year.

HHH subscribers will get $1 off their tickets. Just print out this issue and take it with you!

All show proceeds go to charity, of course, so it's guilt free shopping!

The Theta Charity Antiques Show receives no monies from the sale of antiques displayed at the Show.

A Classic from Anne Fontaine

Anne Fontaine, a 30 something fashion designer originally from Brazil, has taken the concept of a white shirt to a new dimension. Textures such as poplin, stretch cotton, linen, soft jersey and organza, are coupled with embellishments as beautiful as mother of pearl buttons and little tie flowers made from fabric. Slip into one of these creations and you'll want to wear a white shirt everyday! A wide selection of black shirts are also available. The sales staff is as friendly as the shirts are beautiful. Yes, these creations are a little pricey. Shirts start at around $150.

By the way, the color white is believed by many around the world to bring good luck.

It's a Party!!

For a limited time, Target is offering 26 party dresses with amazing quality for the amazingly low price of $39.99. Our favorites include little black dresses, some with sequin detail and others with feather detail. Look for the brocade fabric, it feels much richer than you would expect at this price point. And, who can resist red during the month of December? Don't wait too long, the dresses are big sellers and have been featured on Oprah.
