shade

First impression: The main dining room is sleek, sophisticated and comfortable. As we walked to our table, the aroma from the coffee bar and kitchen raised our expectations for a lunch worthy of the New Year. We'll fill in the details, but let us first say, our lunch was so enjoyable, we were tempted to stay for dinner. We sampled the shrimp entree salad, salmon entree and a coconut cream pie sent from heaven. The wait staff was friendly, informed and welcomed endless questions about each choice on the menu. Even the warm bread was delicious.

Speaking of the menu, it is limited and changes somewhat on a daily basis. Offerings have been described as seasonal, fresh, innovative and affordable. In other words, informal gourmet.

Outdoor dinning is available in a recently renovated brick-alley patio. A granite bar area looks out on 19th Street's shops and street traffic, perfect for a before dinner drink.

Shade is open seven days a week for dinner, Monday through Friday for lunch, and
brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Casual dress is appropriate. Award winning wine
list and full bar service available.
