Flamenco Nights

Did you know that Houston has 91 country consular corps located within the city?

To honor them, the 58th Consular Ball will be held
Saturday, October 10, 2009, 7:00 pm,
at the Hilton Americas Hotel.

The Houston Junior Chamber of Commerce organized the Consular Forum and ball in 1952. The Consular Forum’s main objectives are to celebrate its truly distinguished consular corps, to promote opportunities for international trade and to raise funds for the Houston Junior Chamber of Commerce Foundation. The forum is a series of business, cultural, educational and diplomatic events and is culminates in the annual Consular Ball.

This year the formal and diplomatic ball, hosted by Mayor and First Lady,
Bill and Andrea White, will honor the Kingdom of Spain.
The evening will also be chaired by: Honorary Chairman Eduardo Aguirre,
Former U.S. Ambassador to The Kingdom of Spain, Chairman - Sherman Yeager,
and Patron Chairs - Astrid Van Dyke and Loli Kolber.

The ball boasts a bevy of Spanish inspired entertainment such as the colorful native dancers, La Tuna and flamenco and presents the Kingdom Spain with the opportunity to showcase its economy and culture to the business and political leaders of Houston. There will be cocktails, dinner, an auction, a raffle, and guests will dance to the music of the David Caceres Band and Ka-che.

The ball benefits the endowed scholarships at the University of Houston, Rice Univesrsity and the University of St. Thomas; The James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy; and internships at The Institute for International Education.

Individual tickets start at $300, call the Consular Forum, 281-217-9235 to reserve yours.

High Tea with Teddy

We know it's only September, but it really is necessary to make plans now if you would like
to spend a December afternoon at the St. Regis Hotel with your favorite Christmas angels.
The hotel's annual Teddy Bear Tea features a children's tea service (hot chocolate, lemonade, sandwiches, cookies, cakes) and adult high tea plus a touch of something cocktail-ish,
if you wish. The children are wonderfully entertained while the adults are treated like
royalty to the English tradition of high tea. All of this takes place in the hotel ballroom. Reservations are required and must be made well in advance.
