Summertime - The Living is Easy!!

LLBean Backyard Hammock

Summer is upon us! Whether you are vacationing abroad, taking a trip to the beach or staying put in Houston, this season is an exciting time filled with endless possibilities no matter where you are.

I can’t help but notice that my mind is more at ease and my body is more relaxed during the summer. As things begin to slow down and Houstonians begin to vacate to their beloved summer destinations, I encourage you to stop and think about the little things that make summer such an exceptional time of year.

This year, I am looking forward to summer Fridays at work, gathering with friends and family at our favorite restaurant patios and spending days by the pool with a good book.

Relish in the simpler times that the summertime brings to our lives.

KPC Bash

The Katy Prairie Conservancy’s (KPC) 2019 Bash: Our Roots Run Deep filled the ballroom at the Houston Country Club on Thursday, May 2nd. Nearly 270 attendees gathered to celebrate the nonprofit’s deep commitment to the conservation and enhancement of our coastal prairie. The annual fundraiser brings together both the young and young at heart, who are supportive of KPC’s mission to protect a sustainable portion of the Katy Prairie for the benefit of its wildlife and all Texans forever.

The event honored Forrest Wylie, an avid conservationist whose donation to Katy Prairie Conservancy of a conservation easement on Spread Oaks Ranch (on the banks of the Colorado River) ensures the protection of prairie, wetlands, Columbia Bottomlands, agriculture, ranching, and hunting for generations to come.

KPC board chair Mark Klein served as auctioneer for three live auction packages focusing on outdoor experiences. These included a helicopter hog hunt for four people; a two-night stay for six at Twin Oaks Ranch in Hallettsville and a one-night stay for 10 at Spread Oaks Ranch with craft cocktails, a farm to table dinner and brunch. At the last minute, a helicopter hog hunt was added to the Spread Oaks ranch stay to sweeten the deal. Nearly $300,000 was raised for the Bash, which will provide critical funds to help preserve and protect our important coastal prairie.
