PI Pizza Truck Teams Up With Cherry Pie Hospitality To Open Brick and Mortar Restaurant
On the heels of launching Cherry Pie Hospitality, Lee Ellis today announces that he has teamed up with Anthony Calleo of Pi Pizza truck to open a brick and mortar restaurant this summer at 181 Heights Blvd, right in the heart of the booming Heights area of Houston. In addition to Calleo’s famous specialty pizzas, Pi Pizza will offer appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and desserts. Calleo’s mouth-watering Soppressata Rolls will also be on the new and expanded menu. While Calleo’s truck menu rotates weekly, he and Ellis expect the new menu to rotate quarterly and seasonally. Plus, the new menu will feature some of Pi Pizza’s greatest hits. Further, Laurie Harvey, Cherry Pie’s Beverage Director will work closely with Ellis and Calleo to develop a drink menu that will include frozen cocktails, craft beer and draft wine. Ellis and Calleo have had a long-time working business relationship and always kept in touch throughout the years on various projects, sharing what each other was doing and thoughts on the Houston restaurant scene. The theme, Raise the Roof for Chinquapin Prep enticed the 300 guests at River Oaks Country Club April 28 to give to continue the success of their programs. Chairmen Holly and Tom Forney and Susan Fernbach and Peter Boudreaux celebrated the success with Honorees Lisa and Will Mathis. Will Mathis has been a leader and board member of the school for 23 years and he spoke passionately about the school and the importance of education. Another surprise special guest Ken Starr, President and Chancellor of Baylor University applauded the successful efforts of the school. Every senior was accepted to college and they have a very high graduation rate from college of 85%. The Senior Class of 2016 walked the stage and announced the colleges they would be attending- all to a standing ovation. Khambrel Marshall led the evening Laura Henry Director of Chinquapin Preparatory School teamed up to really raise the roof with donations in 5 minutes of over $50,000. The big boards entertained the crowd and kept bids flying all evening. Development Director Marilu Garza was thrilled with the results of the night over $320,000 was raised.

Opera in the Heights (Oh!) announces “Bravissimo! 2016 – An Emerald Evening,” the nonprofit organization’s major fundraiser of the year, to be held on May 21 at La Colombe d’Or. This year’s event celebrates Oh!’s 20th season and honors the extensive contributions of Josie and Fred Nevill to Opera in the Heights over the past nine years. The emcee for the event is St. John Flynn, who serves as Houston Public Media's Arts & Culture Director, and is an ardent supporter of classical music and opera. Oh!’s Director of Development, Becky Buturovic, has assembled a team of capable young professionals to serve on the gala committee with the Tripodos, also Oh! supporters for many years. These include Carli Baker, Lauren Bryan, Leah Hanson, Alexis Hester, Brittany Koger, Kari Schultz, Dr. Emily Moers and Elizabeth Yarotsky. In addition to an elegant seated dinner and the presentation of the honorees, the evening will include special performances from some of Oh!’s most talented emerging artists. Some of the exciting live auction items for the gala include trips to a fully-staffed villa in Acapulco, Mexico; La Posada Resort in Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Red Willow Lodge in Big Fork, Montana; in addition to a gourmet dinner for six with Maestro Eiki Isomura and a collection of fine wines to stock a wine cellar. Crossroads School’s “Night of a Thousand Stars,”
Raises $115,000 for Exceptional Students

The crowd was dressed to be noticed, the venue was the elegant Houstonian Hotel, and the beneficiary was Crossroads School. The “Night of a Thousand Stars” gala began with a silent auction, cocktails and passed hors d ‘oeuvres, followed by delicious food, and an exclusive live dessert auction. More than 250 friends of Crossroads came out to support Houston’s premiere school for exceptional children with learning differences. This night of majestic splendor raised $115,000 for the school. Guests were welcomed by Emmy-award winning investigative reporter Amy Davis of KPRC-2, followed by Dr. Gila Arnoni, Head of School for Crossroads School, who personally thanked guests for their support. Along with Davis, auctioneer extraordinaire Traci Yeaman conducted the Crossroads’ signature dessert auction. Crossroads’ parent Yolanda Cameron shared a heartwarming testimony and recited a poem, describing how Crossroads was the answer to her long search for a school that fulfilled the needs of her son.
Legacy Restaurants, which owns and operates the Original Ninfa’s on Navigation and Antone’s Famous Po’ Boys, is mourning the tragic loss of one of its senior employees. Director of Operations Veronica Marquez-Garcia, who would have turned 40 on May 4, was killed in an auto accident on Monday, April 25, as she was on her way home from the office. Her car was crushed by a reckless speeding driver who hit her vehicle while she was stopped at a red light. Marquez-Garcia, a vital and beloved part of the company’s leadership team, previously was employed with House of Blues and Applebee’s. She is survived by her husband, Juan, and three young boys. In the wake of the tragedy, Legacy Restaurants has created a GoFundMe page to raise funds for the college education of Marquez-Garcia's three sons – Dylan (11), Josh (13) and Ethan (15). Bayou Preservation Association Hosts 50?th?Anniversary Luncheon Ed Wulfe and John Blount Honored for their Dedication to Protecting Houston’s Bayous Bayou Preservation Association is continuing to celebrate it’s 50th Anniversary with its first annual luncheon honoring Ed Wulfe and John Blount, the recipients of the Terry Hershey Bayou Stewardship Award?. Each year, Bayou Preservation Association recognizes an individual or organization for demonstrating an exemplary commitment to and stewardship of a Houston area bayou or bayous through conservation, preservation, restoration, advocacy and/or other proactive means. Wulfe and Blount’s tireless efforts to make Houston a greener place make them so deserving of this honorable award. In honor of the nonprofit’s jubilee year, Bayou Preservation Association will begin the program with a short video of personal accounts on why Bayou Preservation members are grateful for the organization and all of its efforts.
