Spring has sprung in H-town. This issue is full of past and future events for you to check out, and items to help you with all your upcoming celebrations-proms,graduations, Mothers Day - just to name a few. HHH has found some great places for you to gather, eat, shop, and celebrate!

Brunch seems to have been on the rise lately in Houston. It might be because people are excited they can sleep in on the weekends and still get breakfast foods in the early afternoon or maybe because it’s acceptable to have an alcoholic beverage before 5 o’clock?
It doesn’t matter what the reason is as to why you love brunch, but if you do, you should try Harold’s in the Heights. Harold’s is on the second floor above the Torchy’s Tacos, and Harold’s has a beautiful terrace that is perfect to sit on and sip a mimosa and enjoy the view. Harold’s specializes in Southern and Creole cuisine, and the brunch menu depicts this with options like chicken and waffles, crispy shrimp etouffee balls and beignets. They also offer some classic brunch dishes like eggs benedict, and their eggs benedict is poached to perfection and sits atop delicious ham and a house-made English muffin. All of their dishes are reasonably priced with none of the brunch items being over $20, so hopefully you can splurge on a refreshing carafe of mimosas to share with your dining companions!

KATY PRAIRIE CONSERVANCY’S KATY PRAIRIE BASH 2016 HONORS FOUNDER MARY VAN KERREBROOK

May 11th Event Theme is Naturally Yours: Saving Land for Future Generations

Katy Prairie Conservancy founder Mary Van Kerrebrook will be
honored at the Katy Prairie Bash 2016 fundraiser on May 11

The Katy Prairie Conservancy’s (KPC) Katy Prairie Bash 2016 on May 11 at 7 p.m. honors former KPC board president and attorney Mary Van Kerrebrook for her passion and vision in working to conserve the Katy Prairie. This year’s theme is Naturally Yours: Saving Land for Future Generations. In 1992, Van Kerrebrook had the foresight to realize that if the community did not act quickly, the Katy Prairie—one of the last strongholds of contiguous coastal prairie in the region— would disappear forever. She and a group of concerned citizens founded the Katy Prairie Conservancy as a land trust dedicated to protecting as much land as possible. To date, the organization has protected more than 20,000 acres, making the Katy Prairie one of the largest conserved prairies in Texas. “Mary Van Kerrebrook has been a tireless advocate for saving and restoring the Katy Prairie over many years and could not be a more deserving choice to be honored at our gala,” says Foster Carter, president of KPC’s board of directors. Her leadership with KPC, as well as with other state and national environmental organizations (including National Wildlife Federation) has been exemplary and visionary.” Prairie Bash 2016 will be held at the Houston Country Club and starts at 7 p.m. Underwriting opportunities are available at $25,000 at the Stargazer level for a table of 10, down to the Dip Netter level at $1000 for two tickets. Individual tickets can be purchased at $250 per person and $150 for those under age 40. For more information or to buy tickets, visit www.katyprairie.org or call 713-523-6135.

The Children’ s Assessment Center
17th Annual Spirit of Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show

In the middle is Milly designer, Michelle Smith surrounded by models in her designs

The 17th Annual Spirit of Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show benefiting The Children's Assessment Center was held on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at the Royal Sonesta Hotel. It was a full house with over 520 supporters in attendance helping to raise a record $430,000 for programs that are critical to the healing of child victims of sexual abuse. Outstanding event chairs Kelley Lubanko and Kelli Weinzierl planned a delightful afternoon with the perfect mix of fabulous spring and summer fashions coupled with a focus on the serious issue of child sexual abuse and how we as a community can better protect our children. Mark Wallace, President and CEO of Texas Children’s Hospital, was recognized as the luncheon’s honoree. The Children’s Assessment Center expressed their gratitude for their partnership with Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine. They have partnered together since 2004 and since that time have provided medical services to 9,715 sexually abused children. Neiman Marcus presented fashions by MILLY and designer Michelle Smith was present as the audience was treated to a beautiful runway of the latest spring and summer trends!

Speaker Marilyn Van Derbur

The guest speaker for the event was Former Miss America Marilyn Van Derbur and she brought the crowd of over 500 to their feet as she shared her story of triumph over tragedy. As a childhood incest survivor, she has devoted much of her adult life to raising national awareness and understanding of sexual abuse and its long-term effects. In 1989 her family funded an adult incest survivor program in Denver, and in 1993 she co-founded two national not-for-profit organizations dedicated to public education and strengthening laws protecting victims of sexual abuse. Dominique Sachse served as the dynamic Mistress of Ceremonies and Stephen Lewis served as Auctioneer for the Chopard Boutique Live Auction jewelry piece. The highly coveted piece was a ring encrusted with 76 diamonds at .28cts. This year’s Signature Underwriter was Neiman Marcus.

Incorrect Lunge:
Notice how my step is not long enough; my knee is bending past my toes
and my upper body is leaning to far forward.

Correct Lunge:
- Step far enough that your knee won't be pushed past your toes; be midnful of keeping your core engaged.
- Step out placing your foot firmly on the ground in front of you
-Making sure that your knee is directly over your front ankle, bend your back knee to lunge straight down.
-Return to the starting position by pushing off your front foot.

Add difficulty to the lunge by holding weights!
