On July 12, 2015, twenty talented and beautiful young ladies were presented to society in grand fashion at Houston’s Wortham Center. The ball was an exquisite culmination of a year of extensive training in social graces including etiquette, self esteem, social media and the law and image. A dapper group of intelligent young men served as escorts for the debutantes. The presentation of the debutantes was done by Laura Whitley – Owner of Reel Media Solutions, LLC & a former reporter at KTRK-ABC-12 and Keith Garvin- Anchor/Reporter, KPRC-TV, NBC-2. After the formal presentation, the debutantes and escorts performed a traditional waltz for guests and made formal presentations to their parents. The program proceeded with an Invocation by Dr. Polly Sparks Turner, 20th South Central Regional Director of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the Debutante Challenge, which was given by Dr. Mattelia B. Grays and Ms. Faye B. Bryant, 18th and 21st International Presidents of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. respectively.

The debutantes who were presented were Lela Beal (Greyland Lightfoot – Escort), Baylee Bolden (Xavier Burrell - Escort), Chandler Branch (Kendall Stills- Escort), Victoria Celestine (Lennox Jones - Escort), Keturah Crease (Kourtland Sheppard - Escort), Christine Gooden (Elijah Gooden II - Escort), Chaikerra Guice (Jamal Colvin - Escort), Lauren Harris (Daniel Wilson, Jr. - Escort), Jorian Hunter (Darryl Harris, Jr. - Escort), Kaela McFolling (Cameron West - Escort), Taylor Mitchell (Keilan Sullivan - Escort), Chaya Oliver (Malik Coleman - Escort), Falyn Page (Kyle Guidry - Escort), Lauren Perry (Cameron McGlory - Escort), Amari Prince (Franklin Gans, III - Escort), Caylen Rhine (Rosevelt Matthews, III - Escort), Antonia Spriggins (James Lathan - Escort), Laretta Vital (Dadiran Vital - Escort), Sabra Washington (Devon Cash - Escort) and Mallory Jade Weston (Amir Pink - Escort).

Scholarships were presented to Kaela McFolling and Taylor Mitchell who were both named Miss Cotillion. Christine Gooden was 1st Runner Up and Keturah Crease, 2nd Runner Up. The essay award winner was Falyn Page, with Christine Gooden and Chaya Oliver as 1st and 2nd Runner Up.

This year’s debutante ball was chaired by Mrs. Staci Taylor-Fullmighter and Mrs. Wondy Weston, with the help of a magnificent committee of sorority members and sponsors. Led by President, LaDonna Harris, the Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority Inc., which was established in 1928, has realized significant accomplishments that characterize and lend credence to its motto of “Service to All Mankind”. Established in 1908 on the campus of Howard, University in Washington, D.C., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is America’s first Greek-letter organization established by black college women.
