HHH is Embarking
Happy Hearts!

HHH is embarking a new business endeavor that we are excited about. Read about it at the end of this issue, but first the news for January 19, 2015.

The News….

Petra Nemcova, model, businesswoman and survivor of the 2014 tsunami in Thailand, is founder of the Happy Hearts Fund. She created the foundation ten years ago, after her miraculous survival of the disaster. The fund rebuilds safe-resilient schools in areas impacted by natural disasters.  They work during the gap period when children are forgotten after emergency response is complete, bringing hope and empowerment to generations of children and entire communities. Ms. Nemcova attended the London School of Economics to help her run the foundation. She knew that having only a fundraiser a year, was not enough to sustain the foundation and continue to move it forward. HHF sells luxury candles that Ms. Nemcova has personally chosen for the foundation, from her travels around the globe.

She has also joined with Clinique for three years. They created limited edition products to benefit Happy Hearts Fund during the Holiday season. Since inception of the philanthropic partnership in 2012, and with the help of consumers in 5 countries,
Clinique has donated 1 million dollars to Happy Hearts Fund, enough to rebuild 5 schools around the world! These items are available at clinique.com and Clinique counters. Valentine’s Day is a month away, and the Happy Hearts gifts would make your special someone have a happy heart. Available online and at Neiman Marcus.

Houston’s Dr. Angel

Dr. Joseph Agris, Houston plastic surgeon is also an angel to children around the world with deformities and injuries that leave them ostracized in their villages. He takes a team of doctors with him to help with the mission. He has performed as many as 500 surgeries in a month, including cleft palates, deformed ears, hands and faces.  Some of the injuries are from cooking burns or farm related work incidents.

Dr. Agris and the late Marvin Zindler established the Agris-Zindler Children’s Fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to delivering badly needed medical care to children from some of the poorest areas of the planet, including Central America, the Middle East or wherever a need was found. “These are the forgotten children,” Agris said, “and our foundation’s mission is to identify problems, bring solutions and mobilize resources – like medical care, surgery, medications and prostheses – to provide needed care and support services.”  Dr. Agris has always been an optimist. If necessary, he brings his young patients to Houston for the rest of their treatment.

In 2010, he was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.  Dr. Agris has written several books, the most recent is Tears on the Sand.

For information about the Agris-Zindler Children’s Foundation, call 713-797-1700 or write the foundation at 6560 Fannin St., Suite 1730, Scurlock Tower, Houston, TX 77030.
