Take Me Out to the Library

Beat the heat, and head over to the Houston Central Library to meet well known authors, from several genres, in the library's on going author series.  The City of Houston is picking up the tab, so invite friends, neighbors, and your book club!  Plan to spend a few extra minutes in the adjacent Julia Ideson Building and enjoy the Spanish architecture and interior paintings. Parking is available in the Central Library garage at the rate of $2 per hour.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS

It's not too early to think about Fall activities. The Bayou Preservation Association's
Fall Gala will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2009.

Co-Chairs Cecily Burleson and Meredith Cocke

They have decided to Play it Again for its 2009 gala, tapping into the 2008 theme Casablanca: An Oasis on the Bayou. Last September’s event was canceled due to Hurricane Ike. Event co-chairs Cecily and Rick Burleson and Meredith and Fielding Cocke, along with honorary co-chairs Kristen J. Cannon and Brittany Zucker, are thrilled that Nijad and Zeina Fares have agreed to host the party at their River Oaks home. Expect a taste of Morocco with the food and décor, while you can “shake it like a sheik” on the dance floor. Tickets start at $200; for info, call 713-529-6443.
