Spring Branch Education Foundation and Altharetta Yeargin Art Museum
Offer Donation and Greeting Cards
A partnership between Spring Branch Education Foundation (SBEF) and the Altharetta
Yeargin Art Museum (AYAM) offers the community a selection of donation and greeting cards.
All are designed by local artists – Spring Branch ISD students. Each purchase benefits SBEF
and AYAM. “The cards are beautiful,” said Cece Thompson, SBEF executive director. “They
convey greetings while supporting the Museum and Foundation, and both organizations
enhance the education of Spring Branch students.”
“Donation cards come in five designs and are the perfect way to honor a teacher, friend or loved one,” Thompson said. A set of 10 cards is available for $100 and a set of 25 for $225. Each card is imprinted with the message: A special gift has been made on your behalf to the Spring Branch Education Foundation and the SBISD Altharetta Yeargin Art Museum and ready for the giver’s signature.
FAITH IN PRACTICE’S GALA ATTENDEES
MAKE A LIFE CHANGING IMPACT ON THE POOR OF GUATEMALA.
Leopoldo Lopez Hernandez and his father Apolinario Lopez
Faith In Practice, an organization that aims to help the poor and sick of Guatemala through surgical, medical, and health education related mission trips, held its Annual Gala at the Westin Galleria and raised over $318,000. The event, which carried the theme Choosing Life: A Journey of Hope, honored Dr. Fernando Stein, Medical Director of the Progressive Care Unit at Texas Children’s Hospital, who has dedicated his life to helping the children of the world. Guest speaker Mr. Apolinario Lopez, a Guatemalan Faith In Practice volunteer, shared his story and his reason for dedicating his life to help the sick and poor of his country. Mr. Lopez’s son, Leopoldo Lopez Hernandez, received a cleft-lip surgery by a Faith In Practice surgical team. Leopoldo spoke briefly, yet, he melted the hearts of all attendees with his beautiful smile. Emceed by Reverend Wayne Eberly, Senior Pastor of Pines Presbyterian, the event drew more than 450 for a night of dinner, shopping at the Mercado, and an opportunity to participate in the live auction. Mr. Ron Girotto, former President and Chief Executive Officer of The Methodist Hospital System, served as the Gala chair this year. The Methodist Hospital System, C. Enrique Batres and Memorial Hermann Healthcare System were the event’s signature sponsors and made the night one to remember.

The Friends of the Stehlin Foundation hosted its 32rd annual gala themed “Celebrating Hollywood at the Movies.” More than 600 guests struck a red carpet pose and donned their finest attire to see music legend and movie-theme songwriter Kenny Loggins perform hits from his 12 platinum selling albums. Loggins had everyone on the dance floor with his cinema favorites including Footloose, Danger Zone from Top Gun and I’m Alright from Caddyshack. Keeping these tunes in mind, gala chairs Gabrielle Patout and Lory Tauber were seen hamming it up on stage with gophers as a nod to Caddyshack. Guests’ dancing shoes didn’t get a break when Loggins retired for the night. Skyrocket!, the “wickedly original party band” from Austin, kept guests dancing until the wee hours of the morning with upbeat ‘80s and ‘90s hits. Guests enjoyed a lavish dinner and bid on fabulous silent and live auction items, which included a Rolling Stones autographed guitar. The Friends of the Stehlin Foundation gala raised $568,000, which will be used for research related to drug development, prostate cancer and DSRCT, an insidious form of sarcoma cancer effecting children and young adults.
