DePelchin Children's Center celebrated a bright new day at its annual luncheon honoring the Junior League of Houston and ExxonMobil for their many years of volunteer service. More than 340 people gathered at the Westin Galleria in support, where participants were asked to wear orange sunglasses in recognition of the bright futures for children helped by DePelchin Children's Center. Emceed by Melanie Lawson of KTRK ABC 13 and co-chaired by Liz Rigney and Debbie Robinson, the luncheon featured keynote speaker Vanessa Diffenbaugh, author of The Language of Flowers, who read a powerful excerpt from her best-selling book, which chronicles the life of a young woman aging out of the foster care system. In addition, Philamena Baird presented DePelchin Children's Center Board Chairman Pam Lovett with a donation of more than $94,000 as the charitable beneficiary of the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas.
