Houston’s Cultural Visionaries

Young Audiences of Houston’s annual Spring luncheon, chaired by Margaret Buescher,
will be held Thursday, April 28th at The Coronado Club. This year's theme,
Houston's Cultural Visionaries, will highlight Young Audiences of
Houston's fifty-five years of history.  

This organization is the premier arts-in-education provider in Houston, and works with a roster of 78 teaching artists and arts organizations to provide 2,200 presentations a year, reaching approximately 330,000 within the Greater Houston area. YAH has been recognized as an exemplary chapter by the YA National chapter, and the YA National chapter is the first arts in education organization to receive the National Medal of Arts by the US Government. YAH is part of the largest organization in the arts-in-education field, its 31 affiliates provide nearly 87,000 programs to 7 million children each year.

On the Move Luncheon

The On the Move Luncheon, held Wednesday, March 2 at Hotel ZaZa benefited the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Lone Star with 420 passionate supporters. Chairman Franelle Rogers was thrilled with the second consecutive sold out annual event and the record breaking amount raised for MS research, programs and services dollars. Honorary Chairman Pattie Dale Tye was pleased to be a part of the day, opening the event with the invocation.

Wendy Bedortha shared her personal story of being diagnosed and living with MS since she was in college, now a young mother of 2,she inspired the guests, especially the Chairman’s sister, Joelle Rogers who at the luncheon donated $10,000 to the cause to spur more donations.

Person on the Move, Jim Mills, General Manager of the Houstonian Hotel, spoke about his original involvement in the MS 150 bike ride and how learning more about the people living with this disease inspired him to continue to raise funds for further research to end MS. Representing the Company on the Move award winner, MS Eye CARE University of Houston Eye Institute was Dr. Rosa Tang and Dr. Jade Schiffman, researchers are using various eye examinations to look for abnormalities in the optic nerve fibers that would indicate a high index of suspicion for a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.

Melanie Lawson, Channel 13 anchor interviews best selling author Cami Walker, 29 Gifts, How a Month of Giving Can Change Your Life. Cami has lived with MS for many years and her story of how her path to giving something everyday impacted her life resonated with the audience, who had several questions for her following the interview.
