Happy New Year!

Start 2011 off right by shopping with The Community Cloth. This is a
microenterprise initiative empowering refugee women in Houston. The organization supports these women who want to create and sell handmade, indigenous arts and crafts, such as woven bags, knitted scarves, embroidered linens, rugs and more.

By selling their wares, these women have an opportunity to express their culture and heritage, learn new skills that will assist them in transitioning to life in the US, and obtain much-needed supplemental income. The Community Cloth is about a new start. All profits from sales go directly to the artisans, which will help refugee women provide for the basic needs of their families, as they work to establish new lives in Houston.

Yummy Balls!

Cupcakes are so 2010. Cake Balls are the hip new sweet for 2011. These two bite confections are the perfect proportion of cake to frosting. They are made by combining crumbled baked cake with frosting, rolling the mixture into balls, and covering the balls with confectionery coating to give the petite sweets a glossy, crisp exterior. They are great as a no-fork-needed treat, and their diminutive size won’t let you feel guilty about treating yourself. We found Norma’s Cakes cake balls to be scrumptious!
